It's starting to feel like summertime outside, depending on where you are. And just as the temperatures are starting to rise, the South Carolina Gamecocks are also heating up on the recruiting trail.
Head coach Shane Beamer and his staff has been hard at work on the recruiting trail, landing a slew of commitments in recent weeks. On Tuesday, South Carolina landed 4-star wide receiver Javien Robinson out of Pennsylvania, beating out finalists Syracuse and Rutgers. The Gamecocks also added offensive lineman Jaxon Elston and tight end Judah Lancaster in recent days.
The next big target for Beamer and his staff is 4-star running back Brayden Tyson. The Snellville, Ga. prospect has set his decision date for later this week.
Brayden Tyson commitment ceremony details
- When: Friday, May 15
- Time: 3:30 p.m. ET
South Carolina is one of four finalists, along with Purdue, Rutgers and Florida State. The Gamecocks extended Tyson his first-ever collegiate offer in May of 2023, and Tyson visited South Carolina on May 1. He does have visits to Rutgers and Purdue scheduled for later this summer, but the Gamecocks being the last visit for Tyson before announcing his commitment could be a positive sign.

Landing Tyson would be a big get for Beamer and company. The Gamecocks do not have a running back in its 2027 class currently, and it did not sign one with its 2026 class.
South Carolina did land the likes of backs in Christian Clark via Texas, Sam Dixon via Ohio State and Jabree Coleman from Penn State from the transfer portal. Tyson would be one the biggest running back signee for South Carolina since Matt Fuller, who signed in 2024. Per the 247Sports Composite, Tyson is rated as the No. 38 athlete out of his home state of Georgia and the No. 23 overall athlete for 2027.
Over three seasons tracked by MaxPreps at Brookwood High School, Tyson rushed for 4,057 off 485 carries and 46 touchdowns, averaging 8.4 yards per carry and an impressive 130.9 per game. He added 645 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Obviously if things don't go South Carolina's way, there are other running backs that the Gamecocks can pursue. But it sounds like the staff is in a great place to land the highly-touted running back.
Perhaps Gamecock fans will enter the weekend with some good news from Tyson on Friday afternoon.
