The South Carolina Gamecocks and head coach Shane Beamer have been heating up on the recruiting trail in recent days. Over the weekend, the Gamecocks landed a verbal commitment from three-star offensive lineman Jaxon Elston.Â
South Carolina also has landed commits from receiver DJ Huggins and tight end Judah Lancaster over the last couple weeks. And according to Rivals' Chad Simmons, South Carolina could just be getting started.Â
On Monday, Simmons reported that the Gamecocks "are trending for more key targets" as the summer months get underway. He added that names to keep an eye on include 4-star running back Brayden Tyson, who is the No. 23 ranked athlete for 2027 out of Snellville, Ga. The running back will announce his commitment on Friday, May 15.Â
Another name that is heating up on South Carolina's board per Simmons is 4-star wide receiver Javien Robinson. Although the Pennsylvania wideout has offers from the likes of northeast schools in Syracuse, Rutgers and Penn State, he came away from his visit to South Carolina last month "impressed." He also adds that the Gamecocks have a "slight edge" for nation's No. 9 ranked EDGE rusher for 2027 in Frederick Ards, who holds offers from Florida, Alabama, Texas A&M and FSU.Â
Arguably the biggest nugget in Simmons' piece is regarding 5-star cornerback Joshua Dobson. Although all signs are pointing towards him landing at Texas A&M, Simmons notes that he will be taking his final visit to South Carolina ahead of his commitment.Â
South Carolina's 2027 class is currently ranked 35th nationally per 247Sports and is 12th overall in the SEC. But if the Gamecocks land even a couple of guys listed above, that could change in a hurry.Â
The Gamecocks are expected to host a number of official visits over the summer months, so it could be a busy time on the recruiting trail in Columbia. Â
