The South Carolina Gamecocks are heating up on the recruiting trail. Just 24 hours after a new report suggested that head coach Shane Beamer could go on a recruiting heater over the next few days, one of those key prospects committed to the Gamecocks' 2027 class.
On Tuesday afternoon, 4-star wide receiver Javien Robinson officially committed to South Carolina. The McKeesport, Pa. native chose South Carolina over finalists Rutgers and Maryland.

Robinson is rated as the No. 51 overall receiver for 2027, and the 14th ranked prospect out of Pennsylvania. He is quite the athlete, running track for his high school, as well.
“It came down to relationships,” Robinson said of why he chose South Carolina via Rivals. “The relationship with my family and the relationships I built with the whole coaching staff… that was the biggest thing that put South Carolina on top.”
“They came a little late," Robinson added. "They offered in February. We started talking, but as soon as I stepped on campus in April, it felt like I was meant to be there."
The wideout ending up a Gamecocks isn't a huge surprise, but it's a big get for South Carolina. Chad Simmons of Rivals reported Monday that the blue-chip wideout came away from a visit to South Carolina last week "impressed." He has another visit to Columbia pencilled in for June 5. On3 had Robinson as an 80% lean to South Carolina before his commitment became official.
Here's Gabe Brooks of 247Sports' evaluation of Robinson:
"Explosive athlete who could play receiver or defensive back at the next level. Ample experience in both roles, including significant corner reps. Big-framed athlete pushing 6-foot-2 with above average length. Shot-play threat with linear juice to devour cushion and stretch the field. Above average top-end speed, but particularly impressive initial acceleration. Owns strong track times that support speed in pads."
Robinson joins fellow pass-catchers in three-star receiver DJ Huggins and tight end Judah Lancaster, who committed to the 2027 class on April 30 and May 1, respectively.
It feels like Beamer is just getting heated up on the recruiting trail. On Sunday, South Carolina landed offensive lineman Jaxson Elston. In fact, the 2027 class has gained five total verbal commits over the last couple of weeks, so South Carolina feels like it is on a run.
Following a season that ended 4-8 last season, Beamer knows that this 2027 class has to be an elite one. Of course, the Gamecocks likely have to at least make it to bowl season for Beamer to remain in Columbia past next season. South Carolina has done a great job of getting some key pieces in place, such as an impressive transfer portal class, and adding the likes of Kendal Briles and Stan Drayton to the coaching staff.
But Beamer having an elite class in-place long before the 2027 season kicks off is also hugely important. It appears as though South Carolina's head coach wants to get a head start on doing just that ahead of fall camp starting in a couple of months.
Buckle up Gamecock fans, it could be a hot and busy next few weeks on the recruiting trail.
