The South Carolina Gamecocks are gearing up for a huge official visit weekend in Columbia. On Friday, it was reported that South Carolina would be hosting 4-star wide receiver Iveon Lewis, who is currently committed to Kentucky.

Also included in the Gamecocks' official visit list for head coach Shane Beamer and his staff is one of the Gamecocks' biggest targets in five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson. The five-star prospect out of Cornelius, S.C. is rated as the nation's No. 3 overall cornerback for 2027, and the No. 1 overall player out of his home state of North Carolina. He is rated as the No. 17 player nationally for 2027, per the 247Sports Composite.

Dobson will visit South Carolina last of his recent visits over the last few weekends, as his calendar has been filled with officials recently. On May 29, Dobson visited Auburn, followed by an official visit to Texas A&M on June 5. He visited Michigan and new head coach Kyle Whittingham this past weekend, and will be in Columbia this upcoming weekend.

As for where Dobson is predicted to land, Steve Wiltfong of Rivals predicted in early May that the cornerback would ultimately land at Texas A&M. Rivals has the Aggies with an 86% chance of landing Dobson, with the same outlet putting South Carolina at 3%.

But Rivals' Chad Simmons also noted last month that the Gamecocks get the advantage of hosting Dobson on the last of his official visits. So South Carolina can theoretically pull out all the stops and make a big impression on him that will stick ahead of his decision date. Of his final lists of schools, South Carolina is also the closest to his home state of North Carolina, so that could definitely be a positive sign for Beamer and Company.

Joshua Dobson decision date

Dobson will announce his verbal commitment between his final schools on July 1, just 12 days following his official visit to South Carolina.

The five-star cornerback accounted for 76 total tackles over his first three seasons of high school football, getting some reps on both offense and defense. He also runs track for his high school team, and recently transferred to Hough High School after starting his career at Catawba Ridge. Here's 247Sports' official scouting report of the elite corner:

Speedy zone corner with a wiry frame that can race into the deeper third. Not only has tested in the upper percentile, but has turned heads in a camp setting with his quick feet and smooth transitions. Gains depth with ease while in reverse. Keeps his eyes on the prize and will get to the catch point.

South Carolina's 2027 class currently ranks 64th nationally, and is second-to-last inside the SEC. If Coach Beamer can land the highly-coveted cornerback in Dobson, both of those ranking numbers will shoot way up.

Gamecock fans will be hoping that as the last school he is visiting, South Carolina can do enough to land the cornerback.
