The fall months are a busy time for South Carolina athletics, and as the calendar flips from September to October, there is plenty to keep track of.
From former Gamecocks playing the MLB and WNBA Playoffs, the latest on EDGE rusher Dylan Stewart and the South Carolina football team preparing for Kentucky, let's check in on the latest Gamecock news and notes.
A'ja Wilson gets in heated exchange with Fever fan
The Indiana Fever evened the series with the Las Vegas Aces in Game 2, as former South Carolina star Aliyah Boston and the Fever won 99-89. Former Gamecock star A'ja Wilson finished with 22 points and nine rebounds in the loss, but her moment with a Fever fan made headlines.
Wilson got called for a foul after getting tangled up with the Fever's Sophie Cunningham. After the four was called, Wilson and a Fever fan were seen pointing and yelling at each other, with her Aces teammate, an assistant coach and security official trying to intervene. Wilson was given a technical foul because she left the court to confront the fan.

While she met with the media after the game, Wilson she saw the man pointing at her and taking steps toward her after the foul, calling it "unacceptable:"

It'll be interesting to see if Wilson and Cunningham go at it again at some point during Game 3. That game of the series goes back to Las Vegas on Thursday night, with tip-off set for 9 p.m. ET, and will air live on USA Network and CNBC.
Christian Walker's White Sox hoping to even AL Wild Card Series
In the MLB Playoff, the wildcard series started on Tuesday. In the American League, the No. 6 seeded White Sox got a 6-3 victory over the No. 3 seed Houston Astros on Tuesday evening. Former Gamecock and Astros first baseman Christian Walker finished 0-for-2 in his two chances on offense in the loss. He also had an error in the first inning that allowed Chicago to take an early lead.
After the game, Walker told reporters he was looking forward to his team responding after the loss:

Game 3 is also in Houston, set for Wednesday at 5 p.m. and will air live on NBC Sports Network.
Dylan Stewart's draft stock comes into focus
South Carolina EDGE rusher Dylan Stewart has been suspended from the program indefinitely, after he threw a punch towards Alabama player Josh Ford. Stewart was also seen not listening to his coaches when they wanted him to come out of the game, in addition to having a heated exchange with head coach Shane Beamer.
Since Stewart is considered a future top-10 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, there are now plenty of questions now about whether or not it will affect his draft stock.
“That level of insubordination mid-game was a new one for me,” an NFC scout told The Athletic's Dane Brugler earlier this week told Brugler, who chose to stay anonymous. “(It) feels like it was brewing for a while and exploded with everyone watching.”
In a separate move, Stewart has also been suspended by the SEC for one game, for what the conference described as "egregious contact against an opposing player." He is not expected to be with the team during Saturday's Kentucky game.
Scouting the Kentucky Wildcats
Speaking of Kentucky, South Carolina will take on a 3-1 Wildcat team that has looked impressive early this season. Kentucky already had an upset victory two weeks ago, going on the road to defeat then-No. 9 Texas A&M. Offensively, the Wildcats are led by quarterback Kenny Minchey, and Jordan Castell leads the defense. South Carolina opened as a slight home favorites against the Wildcats.
Gamecock broadcaster Todd Ellis wins prestigious award
Former South Carolina quarterback and longtime “Voice of the Gamecocks” broadcaster Todd Ellis has received a prestigious award for his broadcasting career. The National Football Foundation awarded the 2026 NFF Chris Schenkel Award to Ellis, and he will receive it in early December at the 68th NFF Annual Awards Dinner in Las Vegas on Dec. 8.
South Carolina freshman makes school history women's golfer
Gamecocks freshman Yana Beeli on South Carolina's women’s golf team won the individual co-champion honors at the 2026 Tot Hill Farm Invitational. She became the first-ever freshman in school history to win in a college debut. She finished the tournament with an impressive score of 6-under-par (210).
