Former Gamecock Christian Walker goes 0-for-2 as White Sox upset Astros in Game 1 of AL Wild Card

The Major League Baseball's postseason is here, as the wild card series have started across the league. In the AL Wild Card, the No. 6 seeded Chicago White Sox drew the Houston Astros, led by former South Carolina star and Astros first baseman Christian Walker. 

Although Houston was favored at home, the White Sox went into Daikin Park and pulled out a 6-3 road win to take game one of the best-of-three series. 

It wasn't the best outing for Walker, who had an error in the first inning that left runners in scoring position at first and third base. Munetaka Murakami took advantage with a sac fly to give the White Sox a 1-0 lead: 

Chicago piled on in the second, fourth and fifth innings as a Colson Montgomery homer in the fourth to extend the White Sox's lead to 4-0. The Astros finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth off a Nelson Velasquez homer to make it 5-2. 

Murakami scored off a wild pitch in the seventh to make it 6-2, and the Astros managed one run in the eighth, but it wasn't enough. 

On offense, Walker finished 0-for-2 at the plate, despite entering the series batting .229 with 29 homers. After the game, Walker was confident in his team's ability to respond. 

It'll be a quick turnaround for Houston and the Astros after the loss, as Game 2 is set for Wednesday at 5 p.m. ET.

Walker spent 2010-2012 with the South Carolina Gamecocks, where he helped lead the program to back-to-back CWS titles in 2010 and 2011. They finished as runners up at the CWS in 2012. He finished his Gamecock career with 137 runs batted in, including another 30 home runs.
