The South Carolina Gamecocks have been reeling the last two weeks. First, the Gamecocks saw a 16-0 lead fall to Mississippi State at home. Head coach Shane Beamer's team then followed that up with a 49-18 blowout loss on the road against Alabama.
For Week 5, South Carolina gets a much-needed return trip home to face the Kentucky Wildcats. Kentucky, led by first-year head coach Will Stein, will enter Saturday's game at 3-1 on the season.
The Las Vegas oddsmakers have already released lines for next week's college football games, including the Gamecocks' home game against the Wildcats. Here's a look at the early odds entering Saturday afternoon's contest.
South Carolina opens as early home favorites
Despite the Gamecocks losing the last two games to Mississippi State and Alabama, South Carolina is listed as a slight home favorite. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Gamecocks are 3.5-point favorites in Williams-Brice Stadium.
So far this season, Kentucky has beaten Youngstown State and an impressive 31-21 road victory over then-No. 9 Texas A&M last week. Kentucky is coming off of a 45-21 home win over South Alabama.
Shane Beamer's promise to Gamecock fans resurfaces after blowout loss to Tide
Like South Carolina, the Wildcats also got beat by Alabama 45-17 at home. But that game was much closer in the first half, as Kentucky actually led the Tide 17-13 at halftime. Alabama scored 31 unanswered points in the second half to pull away.
The good news for South Carolina here is that the numbers are on the Gamecocks' side, at least. South Carolina has won the last four straight under Coach Beamer, dating back to 2022.
The Wildcats offensively are led by quarterback Kenny Minchey, who has thrown for 876 yards with eight touchdowns and just one interception all season. For South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers, he will look to drastically take care of the football better than he has recently. In the last two games against Mississippi State and Alabama, he has thrown three interceptions.
We'll see if the line stays where it is, or moves a bit throughout the week.
