The South Carolina Gamecocks have a number of big-time targets set to commit later this week. One of the biggest is five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, who is one of the highest-rated players in the 2027 class that head coach Shane Beamer is pursuing.Â
Dobson will announce his verbal commitment on Wednesday, July 1, and he will be announcing between his final schools in South Carolina, Michigan, Texas A&M and Auburn. Although Texas A&M has been the favorite throughout to ultimately land the highly-touted cornerback, a recent report by Rivals' Steve Wiltfong suggests that the Gamecocks could be trending to ultimately end up the winner.Â
On Monday, two days before his announcement, Wiltfong reported that the Gamecocks have given him the "healthiest" offer of all his final schools, and that it could be too much to say no to. Wiltfong adds that Gamecock defensive backs coach Torrian Gray has been leading his recruitment, and although Dobson wanted more clarity on head coach Shane Beamer's future in Columbia, the school has cleared things up for him. While Wiltfong added that the Aggies have a great relationship with the cornerback and that Dobson knows several prospects committed to Texas A&M's 2027 class, the Gamecocks are building some serious momentum with Dobson. Â
Obviously, time will tell on Wednesday afternoon whether or not South Carolina did enough to land the coveted cornerback. But Wiltfong's reporting is certainly a very positive sign for South Carolina's chances just two days before his announcement. Dobson will commit to his respective school on the same day as his Hough teammate and fellow South Carolina target in safety Davion Jones.

Dobson will be committing as part of Rivals' Summer Signing Day, which be live streamed on the outlet's Youtube page on Wednesday.Â
Dobson visited South Carolina last for his list of schools he took final visits to on the weekend June 19. Rivals' Chad Simmons noted last month that the Gamecocks get the advantage of hosting Dobson on the last of his official visits. Given that the Gamecocks theoretically saw Dobson last and can stay fresher in his mind might give him an edge.
On May 29, Dobson visited Auburn, followed by an official visit to Texas A&M on June 5. He visited Michigan and new head coach Kyle Whittingham June 12, and was in Columbia this past weekend.Â
Wiltfong of Rivals predicted in early May that the cornerback would ultimately land at Texas A&M. Rivals has the Aggies with an 86% chance of landing Dobson, with the same outlet putting South Carolina at 3%. Saturday Blitz's Nicholas Rome also predicts Dobbs will land at Texas A&M. Â
If Coach Beamer can land the nation's No. 3 overall rated cornerback for 2027, it's safe to say he would inject some major confidence in his tenure in Columbia moving forward. Â
