The South Carolina Gamecocks are a finalist for four-star defensive end Marquise Evans. Although the Birmingham, Ala. prospect had previously said he was unsure of when he will commit earlier his month, he has officially set a decision date.

Evans, rated as the nation's No. 38 defensive end for 2027 per the 247Sports Composite, will commit on Wednesday, July 1. He announce his decision live as part of Rivals' Summer Signing Day, along with several other top-rated uncommitted prospects.

The defensive lineman is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 17 ranked player out of his home state of Alabama. He will be deciding between his final schools in South Carolina, Auburn, Florida, Miami and Tennessee. He has taken visits to all of his final schools in recent weeks, with the visit to the Gamecocks coming last on June 19. In a recent interview with Gamecock Central, he told the outlet how valued he feels on-campus in Columbia:

"They put a premium on me," Evans told Gamecock Central of his visit. They made sure I was a priority and I already knew it was going to be [like] because of how many times I'd been down there, how close they kept the relationship all this time."

But his hometown team, the Auburn Tigers, are the favorite to land the highly-touted defensive end. His Rivals page has logged a prediction for Evans, with a 93% chance of him landing at in-state Auburn. The site gives the Gamecocks with a 2% chance to land him, but there's a chance that could have shifted slightly after his visit with South Carolina.

He also told the Auburn Observer that when he visits with the Tigers, it "feels like home."

He last visited Auburn on June 5, and took a visit to Florida the weekend after on the 11th. He additionally took trips to Tennessee on May 22 and Miami on May 29.

Here's everything to know about Evans' commitment ceremony set for Wednesday.

We'll see if South Carolina did enough during his visit to make a lasting impression on the defensive end. The Gamecocks' 2027 class currently does not have a defensive end, so Evans would fill a big need there.
