New South Carolina head baseball coach Kevin Schnall is wasting little time on the recruiting trail. The Gamecocks' new skipper has landed several talented prospects from the transfer portal, both from guys who he coached at Coastal Carolina the last two seasons and elsewhere.Â
Over the July 4th holiday, South Carolina added a talented player who is a force both on the mound and in the batter's box. The Gamecocks added transfer Conner Shouse from Texas Tech, who committed on Saturday.Â
Shouse is a sophomore who spent the 2026 season with the Red Raiders. His most recent season in Lubbock was one of the best of his career, as he batted .353, including another 10 home runs with 66 RBIs. In total, he had 76 total hits including 18 doubles. He also finished 6-for-6 in stolen bases as a sophomore.Â
As a pitcher, he finished with a 1-0 win-loss record, including three saves with 16 strikeouts across his 11 appearances. Â
Prior to transferring to Texas Tech, he actually started his career at Georgia Tech. While he didn't play as much as a true freshman in 2025, he still put together a big season. He made nine starts on the season, and saw action in 25 games. As a batter, he hit .265, and had 15 runs scored. He made just three appearances as a pitcher, but struck out four batters.  He is originally from Jasper, Georgia, so this gives Shouse a chance to play a little closer to his roots.
South Carolina's transfer-portal haul has included some big names, including Bristol Carter from Auburn, Ethan Sutton from South Florida and pitcher Carter Harrington.Â
While some guys who have committed to South Carolina will also be eligible to be selected in the upcoming Major League Baseball Draft, it's looking like a huge impressive roster Schnall is building for 2027 and beyond.
