The South Carolina baseball program is cleaning up on the recruiting trail. As new head coach Kevin Schnall begins to build his new Gamecock program, he has wasted little time landing a number of prospects via the transfer portal.

On Monday evening, South Carolina added another pitcher to its bullpen. Via a post on his Instagram, South Florida pitcher Ethan Sutton announced his verbal commitment to Schnall and the Gamecocks, as he was seen in the photo standing in front of South Carolina signage.

Sutton comes to Columbia after one of his best seasons on the mound in his career, where at South Florida he was used as a reliever. He led the Bulls with nine saves this past season, posting a 3-3 win-loss record in addition to an impressive 4.31 ERA. He struck out 56 batters, and held opposing sluggers to just a .223 batting average.

Prior to his time at South Florida, he spent the first two seasons of his career with the Georgia Bulldogs. But in Athens, his time on the mound was pretty limited. As a true freshman in 2024, he made just three appearances, posting a 3.38 ERA. During his sophomore season in 2025, he took a redshirt with the Dawgs after he recovered from arm surgery he underwent in the offseason.

Schnall has landed several big-name pitchers since he was hired at South Carolina earlier this month. He got several pitchers from Coastal Carolina already, including LHP Hayden Johnson, RHP Daniel Parker, LHP Colby Richardson and RHP Luke Jones. He's also landed pitchers from other teams, including Georgia's Jordan Stephens and College of Charleston's Carter Harrington and Mercer's Miguel Hugas.

The Gamecocks might not be done adding to its pitching staff either, as Coastal Carolina ace Cameron Flukey entered the portal on Monday. South Carolina is expected to be a favorite to land the pitcher.

Congrats to Sutton on his commitment, and welcome home to Columbia!
