The South Carolina Gamecocks baseball program is staying hot on the recruiting trail. New head coach Kevin Schnall has landed several big-name prospects in recent weeks, especially at pitcher.
One big name that committed to the Gamecocks on Sunday evening was right-handed pitcher Carter Harrington. Harrington is coming off his true freshman season at College of Charleston, and he has a big connection to the South Carolina program. Harrington is a native of Columbia, S.C., playing his high school baseball at AC Flora, which sits roughly five miles from South Carolina's campus.

Harrington will have four years of eligibility remaining, thanks to the NCAA's new age-based eligibility rule change that gives athletes five seasons instead of four. As a true freshman, he finished with a 3-5 win-loss record and a 5.49 ERA. Across his 14 games, he registered 42 strikeouts, but did give up seven home runs.
He was named as a Perfect Game Freshman All-America Second Team, as well as added to the CAA All-Rookie Team for his lone season with the Cougars.
In Columbia, Harrington is expected to build upon his solid season with College of Charleston. He will work with new Gamecocks pitching coach Matt Williams, who spent the last two seasons at Coastal Carolina under Coach Schnall. The Chanticleers had one of their best seasons as a pitching staff in 2025, finishing ranked second nationally in both earned-run-average and WHIP, as well as an impressive 3.22 team ERA. Coastal made it to the CWS finals that year.
Harrington landing with the Gamecocks just outside where he grew up has to be an incredibly awesome and full-circle moment for the right hander. Congrats on the commitment, and welcome back home!
