New South Carolina baseball head coach Kevin Schnall is wasting no time building his Gamecock program how he wants. South Carolina has already landed several prospects from the transfer portal since he was hired, including several from his former team, Coastal Carolina.Â
And another big-name former Chanticleer could be next to join Schnall in Columbia. On Monday afternoon, Coastal Carolina right-handed pitcher Cameron Flukey entered his name into the transfer portal.Â
As first reported by On3's Pete Nakos, Flukey entered with a "do-not-contact" tag. That means that instead of college coaches being able to reach out to players, the player who enters into the portal reaches out to schools they are interested in. Flukey had three successful seasons with the Chanticleers, with his sophomore season in 2025 being his most productive. He made 17 starts, and finished with a 7-2 win-loss record. He had a 3.19 ERA, and struck out 118 batters. He also threw a complete game shutout against Marshall.Â
During his 2026 season with Coastal, an injury kept him off the mound until the tailend of the regular season for Flukey, in late April. Still, he finished with a 4.13 ERA and struck out 31 batters in his seven games played. Â
South Carolina is the favorite to land Flukey, pending MLB Draft results
Of course, the Gamecocks are expected to be the favorites to land the former Chanticleers right-handed pitcher. At South Carolina, Flukey would be reunited with his pitching coach at Coastal for the last two seasons in Matt Williams. Williams followed Schnall to South Carolina shortly after he was hired.Â
Not to mention there have already been several other Coastal Carolina players who followed Schnall to South Carolina via the transfer portal. Former Chanticleers who have already joined South Carolina's roster include LHP Hayden Johnson, RHP Daniel Parker, catcher Brice Estep, LHP Colby Richardson, RHP Luke Jones and utility player Jackson Winer. Â
Of course, there is also a possibility that Flukey could declare for the MLB Draft instead. He is expected to be a high pick in the draft, which takes place from July 11-12. In a recent mock draft from SI.com, Flukey was mocked to go No. 28 overall in the supplemental first round to the Houston Astros.Â
While of course, Flukey could choose to go elsewhere and play his final seasons of college baseball elsewhere, South Carolina is expected to be the heavy favorite unless we hear otherwise.
