New South Carolina football commitment has dominant performance over the weekend
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football picked up a commitment last weekend from athletic defender Keenan Britt. Britt, who plays EDGE, middle linebacker, outside linebacker, and virtually every front-7 position imaginable, picked the Gamecocks over a top-5 list that also included the Auburn Tigers, Oregon Ducks, and Arkansas Razorbacks.
Now, just a week after making his pledge to USC, the 4-star prospect showed off what he could do with a dominant performance for the Oxford High School Yellow Jackets in the team's preseason jamboree.
Facing off against the Oak Mountain Eagles, Britt finished the jamboree with double-digit tackles (most behind the line of scrimmage) and 2 sacks, including a strip sack in which he forced a fumble with a hit on the opposing quarterback and recovered the loose ball.
The big performance is indicative of the type of player Britt is.
A hybrid EDGE/linebacker, Britt has played all over the defense at the high school level and could bring some versatility to the South Carolina football program. Likely to begin his career in garnet and black as a linebacker, Britt could also be utilized as a situational pass rusher, especially if the Gamecocks continue to utilize their 3-3-5 defensive scheme. He is listed at 6'2" and 230 pounds, a great size for a linebacker, but if he grows much, then defensive end could be in his future.
The Gamecocks' defensive staff has put a clear emphasis on bringing in hybrid players this offseason. In the class of 2025, Carolina has earned commitments from athletic EDGE players Kobby Sakyi-Prah, Anthony Addison, and Jaquavious Dodd, big linebacker AJ Holloway, and Taeshawn Alston and Donovan Darden as players who are between the two positions. While some of that crew will be better suited with their hand in the dirt, and others could be best at linebacker, there is a real possibility that all of them get some pass rush reps off the edge.
Britt is one of three players pledged to the South Carolina football program in the class of 2026, joining linebacker Rodney Colton (who also has some positional versatility as a defender who can play a traditional linebacker spot or rush the quarterback) and offensive lineman Anthony Baxter.
