Georgia linebacker commits to South Carolina football program

After a couple of big-time recruiting weekends in a row, South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer and his staff have gained some momentum on the recruiting trail.

The Gamecocks had six commitments in the class of 2025 before the visit-heavy weekends began, but, according to Beamer's patented #WelcomeHome posts on social media, six more have joined the ranks. Four came forward in the last week as linebacker/defensive back Jaquel Holman, EDGE Kobby Sakyi-Prah, defensive back Chris Hatfield, and tight end Preston Douglas revealed their pledges over the last week.

On Friday, the fifth of the six #WelcomeHome commitments made his announcement public as Buford, Georgia linebacker prospect AJ Holloway pledged his services to the South Carolina football program.

Though rated as a 3-star recruit, Holloway picked the South Carolina Gamecocks over scholarship offers from programs like the Texas Longhorns, Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers, and North Carolina Tar Heels.

As a player, Holloway is a good athlete at the linebacker position. He flies around the field making tackles from sideline to sideline and often winds up in the backfield before the ball carrier can cross the line of scrimmage.

Holloway knows how to operate through traffic, and he knows how to work through traffic. He excels at getting around the blocks he needs to get around, but he also has no problem attacking blockers and then shedding them when he has diagnosed the play.

Physically, Holloway stands at about 6'2" and weighs 225 pounds, and he is a tough and strong player. He displays this as a fullback on offense who has cleared the way for many big plays for the Buford High School offense.

Though he plays both sides of the ball at the prep level, he will be a linebacker in college. Most of his snaps have come as a middle linebacker, but he has been utilized as an EDGE rusher, as well.
