On Saturday, South Carolina football recruiting target Keenan Britt had his college commitment announcement. Britt, a 4-star hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker prospect from the state of Alabama, recently began including the Gamecocks on his lists of top schools thanks to a previously established relationship with new USC director of player development Darren Uscher (who recruited Britt when he worked for the Oregon Ducks).

Heading into his Saturday evening announcement, Carolina was joined by the Oregon Ducks, Auburn Tigers, Arkansas Razorbacks, and Ole Miss Rebels in Britt's top-5.

When Britt's decision came through, it was South Carolina football fans who were celebrating as the class of 2026 defender picked the Gamecocks.

As a player, Britt has played all over the defense for his Oxford High School team (Oxford, Alabama). He is rated as an EDGE player by recruiting outlets, but he also has experience playing nose tackle, stand-up outside linebacker, and even middle linebacker. It is unclear if the Gamecocks prefer him at linebacker or defensive end, but his athleticism and length would allow him to have success at either spot at the college level.

Britt is listed at 6'2" and 230 pounds, and he has longer arms than his height. His physical profile is similar to several USC commitments in the '25 cycle, which makes sense as the Gamecocks continue to recruit players who can play multiple spots in the 4-2-5 or 3-3-5 base defenses.

Just a month ago, thinking Keenan Britt would wind up committing to the Gamecocks wouldn't have made much sense. However, Darren Uscher was hired around that time to be the team's new director of player development, and he offered Britt immediately. The two had developed a strong relationship during Uscher's time with the Oregon Ducks, and that relationship clearly paid off for Carolina.

Britt is the third commitment for the South Carolina football program in the class of 2026. He joins 4-star linebacker Rodney Colton and 3-star interior offensive lineman Anthony Baxter.
