The South Carolina Gamecocks are looking to continue their positive momentum on the recruiting trail. One big target for head coach Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks is four-star linebacker Mikahi Allen, who is a big-time prospect out of New Jersey powerhouse Don Bosco Prep.
Allen is rated by 247Sports as the nation's No. 15 linebacker for 2027 and the No. 5 overall prospect out of New Jersey. He recently narrowed down his three final schools, including South Carolina, and set his decision date. The linebacker will be committing on Saturday, July 11 at 5:30 p.m. ET and choosing between Texas, Texas A&M and the Gamecocks.

The New Jersey prospect has taken visits to all three of his final schools in recent weeks, as he was on-campus at South Carolina on June 5. He also visited Texas A&M on May 29 and was in Austin visiting the Longhorns on June 19. Per Rivals, Allen is rated as the No. 17 overall linebacker in the class of 2027.
While of course South Carolina making Allen's list of final schools is encouraging, it appears as though the Gamecocks are at least behind the Aggies at this time. But South Carolina has beaten out Texas A&M for a big-time recruit in recent weeks.

As of this writing, the Aggies are the clear strong frontrunner to land Allen. 247Sports has him as a 100% lock to land with Texas A&M, and Rivals gives the Aggies a 92% chance with hometown Rutgers coming in at 2%.
But the Gamecocks have surprised in holding off Texas A&M before. Most notably, South Carolina landed five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson last week, despite the Aggies leading throughout his recruiting process. In fact, the Aggies were favored just hours before Dobson's announcement.
According to MaxPreps, Allen finished last season at Bosco with 58 total tackles including seven sacks. The outlet lists Allen at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, and he also takes reps at free safety. Last season he finished with three interceptions, two passes defended as well as three forced fumbles. The Gamecocks would certainly love to have a versatile playmaker like Allen on defense.
While South Carolina does have a linebacker in its 2027 class in three-star Jackson Ross, there's no question it would love to land a talented prospect like Allen. If the Gamecocks pull off another upset in getting him over Texas A&M, the Aggies would officially be put on notice by Coach Beamer.
Allen holds offers from several big-name schools, including Indiana, Miami, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee and Notre Dame, among several others.
The linebacker will announce his commitment on Saturday afternoon live on CBS Sports' YouTube page.
With a commitment from Allen, South Carolina's 28th ranked class for 2027 will continue to shoot up the national rankings. We'll see if the Gamecocks' strong momentum in recent weeks can carry over to a commit from the highly-touted New Jersey prospect.
