The South Carolina Gamecocks are heating up on the recruiting trail. Over the last couple of days, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer has landed the likes of offensive lineman James Ross, as well as successfully flipping four-star wide receiver target Iveon Lewis from Kentucky.Â
Next, South Carolina's staff has set its sights on linebacker Jackson Ross. The Columbia, S.C. prospect who plays high school football out of Hammond School, initially set his decision dateALS for July 9. He is deciding between South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Texas Tech. But according to SportsTalk Media Network, Ross has decided to move his commitment date up a full nine days, choosing to commit on Sunday, June 28 instead.Â
The 247Sports Composite lists Ross as the nation's No. 51st linebacker for 2027, and the 13th listed prospect from the state of South Carolina. The South Carolina target has visited all of his final schools in recent weeks, visiting Columbia on June 5, and going on-campus to Texas Tech on June 12 and Vanderbilt on May 29.
In a recent interview, Ross spoke to Gamecock 247's Hale McGranahan about how his most recent visit with South Carolina went.Â
"Obviously, I've been around the facility and those people a good bit, but just having a weekend where I got to spend some good time with coach White and coach Money, but also coach Beamer," Ross told the outlet. "I already knew them pretty well, but also getting to be around some of the current players in kind of a different setting. There's not the stress of a game or a spring practice. It was good."
He additionally told The State newspaper in a recent interview that he grew up a South Carolina fan being from Columbia, he recognizes that he has opportunities to go elsewhere. On3 lists Texas Tech with a 38% chance to land the linebacker, with South Carolina getting just 25%.Â
Late June and early July are shaping up to be quite the busy recruiting weeks for South Carolina. Five-star target and cornerback Joshua Dobson will announce his verbal commitment on July 1, and four-star OT Nate Carson will announce his commitment on July 3. Â
Perhaps Hammond moving up his decision date is a good sign for the Gamecocks, but only time will tell. Â
