The South Carolina Gamecocks are hard at work recruiting several key pieces for their 2027 class. One of the biggest targets for head coach Shane Beamer and his staff is five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson.Â
The Gamecocks hosted the Cornelius, N.C. prospect for a visit this past weekend, along with several other big-name players. Just a few days after his visit wrapped up, it appears that he is closer to a decision.Â
Dobson will be committing to his school of choice on Monday, July 1. He will be choosing between a number of final schools, including South Carolina, Michigan, Texas A&M and Auburn. He will be committing as part of Rivals' Summer Signing Day, which be live streamed on the outlet's YouTube page on the date:Â

While of course every player South Carolina is recruiting for 2027 is important, Dobson might be the highest ranked player the Gamecocks are after. The five-star prospect is rated as the nation's No. 3 overall cornerback for 2027, and the No. 1 overall player out of his home state of North Carolina. He is rated as the No. 17 player nationally for 2027, per the 247Sports Composite.
Dobson visited South Carolina last for his list of schools he took final visits to. On May 29, Dobson visited Auburn, followed by an official visit to Texas A&M on June 5. He visited Michigan and new head coach Kyle Whittingham June 12, and was in Columbia this past weekend.Â
As for where Dobson is predicted to land, Steve Wiltfong of Rivals predicted in early May that the cornerback would ultimately land at Texas A&M. Rivals has the Aggies with an 86% chance of landing Dobson, with the same outlet putting South Carolina at 3%. Saturday Blitz's Nicholas Rome also predicts Dobbs will land at Texas A&M. Â
But Rivals' Chad Simmons also noted last month that the Gamecocks get the advantage of hosting Dobson on the last of his official visits. Given that the Gamecocks theoretically saw Dobson last and can stay fresher in his mind might give him an edge.
South Carolina is also the closest school to his home state of North Carolina of all his final schools, which will also be a factor at-play here.Â
One thing's for certain is that Gamecock fans will be eagerly awaiting his announcement on July 1. Â
