The South Carolina Gamecocks had themselves a busy recruiting weekend, hosting a number of big-time prospects on campus. With the NCAA's dead period slated to begin June 22 and going through July 31, head coach Shane Beamer is looking to lock down as many prospects as he can for the 2027 recruiting class.Â
One of those prospects is four-star offensive tackle Nate Carson, who was also on-campus over the weekend. Following his South Carolina visit, he officially set a decision date. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound prospect has set a decision date for Friday, July 3, per Gamecocks 247.Â
Carson is the nation's No. 23 offensive tackle for 2027, and is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 6 prospect out of South Carolina. He plays high school football at nearby Irmo High School.Â
The highly-touted offensive tackle has been busy taking plenty of visits in recent weeks to his final list of schools. He visited Clemson on May 29, and took one to Georgia on June 5. He also visited Colorado and head coach Deion Sanders on June 12, with his South Carolina visit coming last on his list.Â
As for where he might end up, Rivals gives Georgia a 80% chance at landing the offensive tackle, with South Carolina coming in at 7%. But those numbers could have shifted some following his visit to Columbia this weekend.Â
South Carolina's 2027 class already features two offensive tackles in three-star Clayton Lee, who committed just last week. It also includes four-star John Archer, who committed on April 29. Carson would be one of the highest-rated offensive tackles in the Gamecocks' 2027 class, if he does commit.Â
South Carolina was the very first school to offer him in September of 2024, nearly two full years ago. Although Coach Beamer has missed out on a few big-name in-state prospects in recent weeks, landing a local prospect like Carson would help rectify that some.Â
With just 12 days remaining until Carson's commitment date, Gamecock fans will be eagerly awaiting his decision in the meantime.
