The South Carolina Gamecocks have continued their hot streak on the recruiting trail.
On Friday afternoon, Gamecock fans got some great news heading into the weekend, as South Carolina officially landed 4-star athlete Brayden Tyson. The Snellville, Ga. prospect committed to South Carolina over his final schools in Purdue, Rutgers and Florida State. He made the announcement official at a ceremony at his high school.

Several signs pointed towards Coach Beamer and his staff landing the Georgia prospect. Tyson had announced his final list of schools earlier this week, including the Gamecocks, after taking a visit to Columbia on May 1. The other positive sign that suggested Tyson was headed to Columbia was that the Gamecocks were the only school that hosted him for an official visit before making his announcement. South Carolina was also the first-ever school to offer him in May 2023.
One other thing that separated Tyson's recruitment from South Carolina from his other final schools was how the Gamecock staff planned to use him. Tyson is listed by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 23 overall athlete for 2027 and 38th rated prospect out of his home state of Georgia. But South Carolina was recruiting him primarily as a running back.
“It feels like home," Tyson said of his decision via Rivals. I feel like I could go there even if I wasn’t playing football."
“They believed in me early,” he continued. “That meant a lot in the beginning, then they just stayed with me the whole process. Over time, I built strong relationships with the coaches, I learned more about the program, and when I visited there, it just always felt right.”
He had visits listed on his 247Sports page scheduled for his other finalists for later this summer, but it's unclear if those will remain on the books.
Tyson is the latest addition to South Carolina's 2027 class, which has added several members in recent days. Earlier this week South Carolina landed 4-star wide receiver Javien Robinson out of Pennsylvania, beating out finalists Syracuse and Rutgers. The Gamecocks also added offensive lineman Jaxon Elston and tight end Judah Lancaster in recent days.
As of Friday morning, South Carolina's 2027 class was ranked No. 30 overall in the country. Per Gamecocks247, landing the running back would have vaulted the Gamecocks' class up nine spots in the rankings to No. 21.
Here's 247Sports' Andrew Ivins' scouting report of Tyson, from May 2026:
-Downhill sledge hammer with ready-to-play bulk. -Built almost like a defensive end with a muscular frame that’s believed to be pushing 6-foot-1 and carrying 235 pounds.
-Powers inside with his vision and balance.
-Will try to sink his weight and charge through defenders, but can also make slick cuts to get around them.
-Might not have a turbo under the hood but has proven to be a hard tackle once he breeches into the second level with his mass.
-Should be viewed as a potential short-yardage specialist that can ram his way through stacked boxes.
-Bills himself as a running back, but is the son of a former NFL defensive lineman and could always get a look elsewhere.
Over three seasons tracked by MaxPreps at Brookwood High School, Tyson rushed for 4,057 off 485 carries and 46 touchdowns, averaging 8.4 yards per carry and an impressive 130.9 per game. He added 645 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Not a bad way to start out the weekend, hey, Gamecock fans?
