The temperatures might be heating up outside, depending on where you find yourself at the end of June. Getting just as hot is the South Carolina Gamecocks baseball program on the recruiting trail.Â
New head coach Kevin Schnall may have just been hired earlier this month, but he has wasted no time landing several big-name prospects via the transfer portal. One of the biggest investments for Coach Schnall in the early days of his tenure is on the mound, as the Gamecocks have landed several big-name arms in recent days. Â
One new pitcher that South Carolina landed a verbal commit from is Andrew Koshy, who announced he was committing to the Gamecocks via a post on his Instagram. He made the announcement on Monday evening. Koshy, who is from Albertson, New York, has spent the last two seasons at Maryland pitching for the Terrapins in the Big Ten. This past season was his best one of his career, making a team-high 25 appearances on the mound. As a junior, he finished with a 2-1 record, and had a 5.82 ERA. He also struck out 42 batters across his 44.2 innings pitched.Â

As a sophomore in 2025, he made 18 appearances, going 2-2 on the season with two saves. He had 27 strikeouts across 24 innings. Prior to transferring to Maryland, he started his career at Wake Forest. For the Demon Deacons as a true freshman, he saw action in 11 games, getting five strikeouts across 6.1 innings pitched.Â
Koshy will be reunited with one member of that Wake Forest coaching staff, in Bill Cilento. The longtime Demon Deacons hitting coach was hired by Coach Schnall shortly after he was hired in June. In Columbia, though, Koshy will be expected to primarily work with new South Carolina pitching coach Matt Williams. He spent the last two seasons with Coastal Carolina and Coach Schnall, helping produce one of the nation's most dominant pitching staffs in 2025. The Chanticleers made it to the CWS Final that season.Â
