Here is the latest South Carolina Gamecocks news from the last week in Columbia, starting with some recruiting updates from the South Carolina football team.

The Gamecocks' top quarterback target in the class of 2025 is Ohio native Ryan Montgomery, and his recruitment likely is coming to its conclusion soon, according to an interview with On3's Chad Simmons.

5-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham put South Carolina football in his top-12.

The Gamecocks made the top-10 for offensive lineman Jacobe Ward; he is a 3-star prospect but has an elite offer list and many top programs are in his top-10 with USC.

Another 3-star with a nice offer list is Jovarious Lundy, and the talented defensive back named the Gamecocks among his top-10.

Shane Beamer's team also officially welcomed a new coach to the program.

After the departure of special teams coordinator/associate head coach Pete Lembo, the Gamecocks did an admirable job of finding a replacement in 30-year NFL veteran Joe DeCamillis. DeCamillis has over 15 years of special teams coordinator experience in the NFL, worked last year with the Texas Longhorns, and is the son-in-law of South Carolina football legend Dan Reeves.

USC graduates Spencer Rattler and Xavier Legette took part in Senior Bowl activities last week and really turned some heads.

Rattler was sensational all week. He was considered the top quarterback at the practices (over projected higher draft picks Bo Nix and Michael Penix), was voted as the quarterback MVP by his defensive teammates, and he won the MVP for the American Team in the Senior Bowl game.

Legette was good, as well, showing off his impressive athletic traits in 1-on-1 drills and team periods. He missed the game with a minor ankle issue.

A few former Gamecocks made some coaching news.

Do-it-all star Syvelle Newton (most known for his work as a quarterback and wide receiver) is now the head coach at Great Falls High School.

Cory Peoples, a defensive back at South Carolina before a brief NFL career, will be the defensive backs coach at Georgia Tech.

Former Carolina tight ends coach Joe Cox will have the same position at Ole Miss after not being retained by Kalen DeBoer at Alabama after Nick Saban's retirement.

The rival Tennessee Volunteers are under NCAA investigation...again.

No specifics have come out regarding the investigation, but reporters covering the situation have speculated quarterback Nico Iamaleava is part of the probe. Sports other than football may be involved, as well. The state of Tennessee (with backing from the state of Virginia) is suing the NCAA from the attorney generals' offices.

Lamont Paris' South Carolina basketball squad just keeps rolling.

The Gamecocks' winning streak is up to 5 games now as they traveled to Knoxville and beat the #5 Tennessee Volunteers and then beat the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens.

The Fighting Q-Zips have won with stifling defense, but the offensive production has been spread out amongst different players on the roster. In the 5-game win streak, USC is averaging just 72.6 points per game, but they've been efficient, making 46% of their shots and 40.5% of their 3-pointers while knocking down 12 free throws per game. BJ Mack and Ta'Lon Cooper have led the team in scoring twice, while Collin Murray-Boyles led the way offensively once.

AP poll has not yet been released, but when it does on Monday, the Gamecocks will be ranked for hte first time since the 2016-2017 Final Four season.

Dawn Staley's team remains dominant.

Despite playing a game on the road against Auburn (who beat LSU a couple of weeks ago) and battling the then-2nd place Ole Miss Rebels, South Carolina basketball's undefeated record remained intact with two victories by an average margin of 25.5 points.

Carolina got two double-doubles from Ashlyn Watkins in her first two starts of the season as Chloe Kitts battled an illness.

Kamilla Cardoso will miss the next week while she plays with the Brazilian national team in Olympic qualifiers.

Mark Kingston's South Carolina baseball squad has gotten some more preseason recognition.

The NCBWA ranked the Gamecocks as the 15th-best team in the country. Other than D1Baseball (who ranked USC 25th), all of the major rankings have had Carolina between 11 and 15.

Cole Messina was chosen as the best catcher in baseball by D1Baseball.

Messina and Ethan Petry were chosen as preseason All-Americans by both D1Baseball and PerfectGame.
