Recent South Carolina football commitment flips to another SEC program
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football recruiting suffered another setback to its 2025 class on Wednesday. 4-star linebacker/EDGE commitment Jaiden Braker, who committed to the Gamecocks earlier in July after being a heavy lean to the program for months, decommitted less than four weeks after his initial pledge. The decommitment comes in the form of a flip as Braker also announced a commitment to the LSU Tigers through a graphic made by On3's Hayes Fawcett.
The move doesn't come as much of a surprise to those who follow recruiting. When LSU offered Braker not that long ago, he had great things to say about Bayou Bengals, and after a visit to Baton Rouge last weekend, the athletic Georgia native raved about his visit. The positive feelings about LSU turned into recruiting momentum for the Tigers, and Braker flipped his commitment.
Still, though, losing Braker is a blow for the Gamecocks. USC didn't necessarily need another linebacker or EDGE player in the class, but they liked the upside on Braker's film as a player who could turn into a really good college linebacker or an intriguing athlete rushing the passer.
Even without Braker in the class, South Carolina football boasts commitments from EDGEs like Kobby Sakyi-Prah and Jaquavious Dodd, linebackers AJ Holloway and Jaquel Holman, and hybrid players like Anthony Addison and Taeshawn Alston.
It remains to be seen if the Gamecock coaching staff will pursue another player at linebacker or EDGE this cycle.
In all, the Gamecocks have 20 commitments right now in the class (including specialists), and the class is ranked 27th (On3) and 31st (247Sports) in the country. A few high-profile South Carolina football recruiting targets are set to announce their college decisions over the next week, so if things go well, that ranking could be going up soon.
