Key South Carolina targets to commit Wednesday, headlined by 5-star CB Joshua Dobson

The Gamecocks can start off July on the recruiting trail with a bang.

The South Carolina Gamecocks had a great week on the recruiting trail last week, as head coach Shane Beamer landed several big-name commitments including four-stars Iveon Lewis and cornerback Kelvin Millington. 

While the momentum is a good sign, South Carolina is not looking to slow down any time soon. As the summer calendar turns to July, the Gamecocks are entering a crucial recruiting stretch, with several big-name targets set to commit. 

The biggest is none other than five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, who is one of the most highly rated recruits that South Carolina is pursuing. The five-star prospect is rated as the nation's No. 3 overall cornerback for 2027, and the No. 1 overall player out of his home state of North Carolina. He is rated as the No. 17 player nationally for 2027, per the 247Sports Composite.

He'll be announcing Wednesday, July 1 around 6 p.m. ET, and choosing from his final schools in South Carolina, Michigan, Auburn and Texas A&M. Although most predictions have Dobson ending up with the Aggies, South Carolina has reportedly been making some major headway for Dobson in recent weeks. He has visited several of his final schools in recent weeks, taking a visit to South Carolina the weekend of June 19. 

Also set to commit on Wednesday is four-star defensive end Marquise Evans. He decided to announce on July 1 earlier this week. Rated as the nation's No. 38 defensive end for 2027, will commit  at 11:35 a.m.. He will commit as part of Rivals' Summer Signing Day, along with several other top-rated uncommitted prospects.  

The defensive lineman is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 17 ranked player out of his home state of Alabama. Although Auburn is the favorite to land the defensive end, he will be deciding between his final schools in South Carolina, Auburn, Florida, Miami and Tennessee. 

While South Carolina might not ending up landing both prospects, being able to land one of the two guys in Dobson or Evans would make for a strong start to the month of July.
