The South Carolina Gamecocks are just a few days away from opening the 2026 football season. The Gamecocks are heavy home favorites against the MAC Kent State Golden Flashes, and South Carolina’s coaching staff will be hosting an important part of the Gamecocks’ future.
South Carolina will host four-star defensive end and current 2027 Gamecock commit Jayden Broadie for the home opener against the Golden State Flashes. Broadie committed to the Gamecocks' 2027 class over the summer, on July 4.
Broadie's official visit set for the Sept. 5 season opener against Kent State was first reported by Gamecocks247. Not only will the game be a great way for South Carolina fans to get a first look at Shane Beamer's revamped Gamecock squad, it'll give Broadie a first-hand look at how the Gamecocks operate on game day. It should be a great showing for South Carolina, as the Gamecocks are favored by over 30 points.
Broadie, a four-star recruit, from Rolesville, N.C., is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 11 EDGE rusher in the class of 2027. He is also rated by the outlet as No. 32 overall player for his position.
The North Carolina native committed to the Gamecocks in early July as part of Coach Beamer's run of blue-chip recruits, including five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, four-star safety Davion Jones and four-star offensive tackle Nate Carson. Broadie is also another prospect that South Carolina has recruited from the state of North Carolina, which is a recruiting stronghold for the Gamecocks.
Across two seasons tracked by MaxPreps, including his current season one at Rolesville High School, Broadie has racked up 86 total tackles with 19.5 for loss, including 4.5 sacks. Here's 247Sports Composite's scouting report of Broadie, via Andrew Ivins:
"Promising defensive end that’s still putting it all together. Looks the part with a muscular 6-foot-2 ½, 230-pound frame and has tested well in a combine setting. Can fight his way off blocks and slide into gaps as a run defender. Wide enough to shade up when he gets interior looks. Still developing a full menu as a pass rusher, but activity can lead to pressures. Will explode through contact when he earns the opportunity."
Kudos to South Carolina for getting Broadie on-campus as early as possible for his visit. The Gamecocks are also expected to host several talented prospects this fall, including 2028 five-star Cassell Cruickshank, fellow 2028 five-star Asher Ghioto and OT Ty Winn
Broadie also has offers from Virginia Tech, Auburn, Georgia and Georgia Tech.
