It may be early in the 2028 recruiting cycle. But South Carolina and head coach Shane Beamer are showing no signs of slowing down, as it continues to rack up official visits and commits for members of the class.

On Monday afternoon, 2028 five-star EDGE rusher Asher Ghioto out of elite Bolles School in Jacksonville, Fla. officially put a visit on the books with the Gamecocks. In an Instagram post, Ghito confirmed that he will take visits to South Carolina among six other programs this fall. Ghito will be on-campus in Columbia on Oct. 24. That puts the elite EDGE rusher in Columbia for South Carolina's huge home game against the Tennessee Volunteers.

Ghito is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 1 overall EDGE rusher for 2028, and the No. 3 player in his class. He's also ranked in the same spot within the state of Florida. The Gamecocks hosted Ghito for an unofficial visit on June 11, and first offered the Bolles prospect in May of last year.

In addition to visiting South Carolina, he has visits set with Notre Dame on Sept. 6, Texas on Sept. 12, Georgia on Sept. 26 and Texas A&M on Oct. 2. He will also visit Miami on Oct. 17 and Florida on Nov. 7 a couple weeks after his South Carolina visit.

In addition to the aforementioned schools, Ghito holds offers from just about every major school in the country, including Alabama, Clemson, Colorado, Indiana, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee and USC. As a class of 2028 prospect, he is entering his junior season in 2026.

According to MaxPreps, he has had a pair of massively impressive seasons at Bolles, racking up 150 total tackles with 56 for loss, 30 sacks, two fumble recoveries and an interception.

Although there is still a long way to go with the 2028 class, South Carolina's class is ranked 7th nationally, per 247Sports. The Gamecocks have two members in the class already, including wide receiver Joseph Gibbs and wide receiver Jhamari Cain, who is a high school teammate of 2027 four-star receiver Iveon Lewis.

Obviously South Carolina has a long way to go before i can feel in a good spot with Ghito. But the Gamecocks nailing down an official visit with the five-star during one of South Carolina's biggest home games of the season is certainly a positive sign. Not to mention when he has so many other big-time offers. Ghito does not have a commitment date just yet, but could have one soon with more visits he takes this fall and beyond.

South Carolina's game against Tennessee will be an afternoon kickoff slot, set for a 3:30 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. kick. You can bet Williams-Brice Stadium will be rocking for both Ghito and the Vols coming to town.
