It's a busy time of year for South Carolina athletics, both with current teams playing day in and day out during the week, as well as former athletes suiting up for their respective professional teams.
Here's a roundup of the latest news and notes you may have missed across Gamecock sports.
South Carolina EDGE rusher Dylan Stewart suspended 1 game
The South Carolina Gamecocks, together with the SEC, announced that EDGE rusher Dylan Stewart has been suspended one game. The suspension stems from Stewart punching Alabama tight end Josh Ford late in the fourth quarter during the Gamecocks' 49-18 blowout loss against Alabama.
The conference called Stewart's actions "egregious contact against an opposing player." The one-game suspension is separate from head coach Shane Beamer's indefinite suspension of Stewart he announced on Sunday.
Former Gamecocks shine in NFL, WNBA playoffs, MLB wild card begins
Several former Gamecocks are doing big things at the professional level, as well. In the NFL, Denver tight end Nate Adkins caught a touchdown pass from Bo Nix that allowed Denver to tie the game up against the LA Rams at 16:

In the WNBA, the first round of the playoffs began on Sunday. A'ja Wilson scored 38 points against the Indiana Fever during her the Aces' 102-85 victory in Game 1.

The Atlanta Dream also won Game 1 against the Washington Mystics, 92-77. Allisha Gray helped her team get the dub by scoring 22 points with three rebounds in the win.
In the MLB, the wildcard playoffs are starting this week. Former Gamecock Christian Walker and the Houston Astros earned the No. 3 seed, and will take on the Chicago White Sox. Walker is batting .229 for Houston this year, and has hit 29 home runs.
Dawn Staley, women's basketball win exhibition over College of Charleston
South Carolina women's basketball earned a victory over the College of Charleston on Sunday, as the two teams played an exhibition game as part of the LinkU Invitational. The Gamecocks won 91-60, as Joyce Edwards led the way with 28 points and 16 rebounds. Tessa Johnson added another 23 with six rebounds, and transfer Jordan Lee finished with 15 points, hitting four threes.

Men and women's soccer teams notch a draw and win
On the men's side, the Gamecocks took on James Madison at home. The game resulted in a 1-1 draw, with Loïc Sany Kong scoring the only goal for the Gamecocks. South Carolina recently was ranked No. 1 in the nation, before losing to Charleston last week.
For the Gamecock women, South Carolina earned a 3-0 win over Missouri, and they remain undefeated in conference play.
South Carolina football kickoff time vs. Florida to be set next week
The Gamecocks are taking on Florida next week, going on the road to face the No. 8 ranked Gators in Gainesville. The SEC announced that the kickoff time will be either at Noon ET or 12:45 p.m. ET. The game will air live on either ABC or SEC Network. The conference will designate a kickoff time after Week 5's games play out.
