After weeks of frustration, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks' 2027 recruiting class finally got some good news. On Wednesday, offensive lineman Clayton Lee committed to the Gamecocks. The news was first reported by Hayes Fawcett of Rivals/On3 Sports:

Lee chose the Gamecocks over his final schools in Virginia Tech, UCF and NC State. The Florida prospect plays high school football for West Nassau County in Callahan, Fla., which sits just outside of Duval County in Jacksonville. Fawcett lists Lee as a 315-pound lineman, although he is listed at 305 pounds on his Rivals page.

South Carolina was the last of three visits Lee took over the last few weeks, and the visit was impressive enough for him to commit to the Gamecocks. He visited UCF on May 29 and was at Virginia Tech on June 5. Shane Beamer hinted that at last one commit could be coming from his X account on Tuesday evening:

According to GamecockCentral, Lee is one of two "silent" commits for South Carolina, so the Gamecocks could be getting more good news soon.

The 247Sports Composite lists Lee as a three-star prospect, rated No. 87 overall as an offensive tackle and the 105th ranked prospect out of his home state of Florida.

Lee's commitment brings some much-needed good news for South Carolina on the recruiting trail for its class of 2027. The class recently lost safety commit Jernard Albright, who flipped to Florida State. Coach Beamer also missed out on big-time running back target David "Tre" Segarra, who committed to LSU despite being one of the top-ranked players within the state of South Carolina.

South Carolina is also set to host one of its biggest targets in five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson this weekend, so it could be a busy next few days for the Gamecocks on the recruiting trail. With Lee's commitment, the Gamecocks now have nine verbal commits, and could slightly improve upon its No. 63 national rankings per 247Sports.
