The latest South Carolina Gamecocks news from the last week, starting with some updates from the world of South Carolina football recruiting

4-star EDGE Jaquavious Dodd, a Palmetto State native, announced his commitment to the South Carolina football program.

5-star longsnapper Kyler Farrow also pledged his services to the Gamecocks over the weekend.

3-star athlete AJ Brand, an Irmo High School product, committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies. Brand was being recruited by USC as a defensive back but will play quarterback in Blacksburg.

3-star EDGE Taeshawn Alston trimmed his list to three schools (the Gamecocks made the cut) and announced his decision date for Tuesday, June 25th.

4-star offensive lineman Dontrell Glover is set to announce his commitment on Monday, June 24th.

4-star defensive line target Zavion Hardy, a former South Carolina football commitment, is now the #1-ranked player from the junior college ranks.

5-star EDGE Isaiah Gibson decommitted from the Southern Cal Trojans after visiting Columbia. The Gamecocks are involved, but the Georgia Bulldogs appear to be the favorite for the Peach State native.

3-star wide receiver Giyahni Kontosis put the Gamecocks in his top-6.

Current Gamecock wide receiver Nyck Harbor made some news last week.

Despite qualifying for the Olympic trials in the 200-meter sprint, Harbor has elected to skip out on trying to make it to the 2024 Summer Olympics to focus on football.

Former Carolina star Deebo Samuel made his way onto the preseason CBS NFL Top-100 list for the third year in a row.

Samuel slipped a bit (likely due to battling some injuries again in 2023) but still is #81 on CBS' Top-100.

One of the biggest names in college basketball media continues to disrespect South Carolina basketball.

ESPN's Joe Lunardi, the famed bracketologist, did not include the Gamecocks in his latest NCAA Tournament projection. 10 SEC programs made Lunardi's hypothetical field of 68 (Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Texas, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Florida), and 2 more were in the "First Four Out" (Vanderbilt and Missouri).

12 SEC programs were part of Lunardi's discussion, but the Gamecocks were one of four that were left out of the conversation completely.

Former South Carolina basketball legends A'ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston were two of the best players in the WNBA last week.

Boston won the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

Wilson was incredible, as well, and she continues to extend her all-time WNBA record with her scoring streak of 20-point games.

A South Carolina incoming freshman and a Gamecock target in the class of 2025 led Team USA to the U18 AmeriCup championship.

Joyce Edwards was a starter, the team's captain, and the leading scorer in the tournament. She was named the AmeriCup MVP for her strong showing.

Jazzy Davidson was also a starter (despite still being in high school for another year) and was one of the most versatile players (along with Edwards) in the entire competition.

Team USA beat Team Canada in the championship game after blowing out Brazil, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Argentina along the way.

The South Carolina baseball program has added two transfers over the last week.

Corner infielder Jase Woita (Kansas City Kansas Community College) and left-handed pitcher Wyatt Evans (Tennessee Volunteers) made public commitments to the Gamecocks.

The duo joins a transfer class that already included right-handed pitcher Caleb Jones, utility player Cayden Gaskin, and outfielder Dalton Mashore.

Gamecock baseball catcher Cole Messina continues to rake in awards.

The likely early pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, Messina has been named to four different All-American teams since Carolina's season ended.

The entire South Carolina baseball coaching staff from last year has found employment.

Associate head coach/hitting coach Monte Lee will have the same position on next year's Gamecock team under new head coach Paul Mainieri.

Former head coach Mark Kingston was hired to be the next head coach of the Creighton Blue Jays. News came out later that the job won't be his until after the 2025 season, though, as he is the head coach in waiting behind long-term coach Ed Servais. Former Gamecock off-field coach Mike Current is joining Kingston's staff in Omaha.

Former pitching coach Matt Williams has taken the same position with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.

Former assistant coach Joey Holcomb will be an assistant with the South Florida Bulls.

New South Carolina softball coach Ashley Chastain has put in some good work in the transfer portal.

Right-handed pitcher Sam Gress (Charlotte), first baseman Arianna Rodi (Charlotte), catcher Lexi Winters (Charlotte), utility player Quincee Lilio (Oklahoma), and right-handed pitcher Nealy Lamb (Charleston Southern) are the newest Gamecocks to announce commitments to the program from the transfer portal.
