South Carolina Football: Gamecocks officially in top-5 for elite in-state prospect
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football has two wide receivers committed to the program in the class of 2025 as Jayden Sellers (3-star from South Carolina) and Brian Rowe (4-star from North Carolina) were the first two pledges in the '25 cycle for Shane Beamer and his Gamecock program.
However, with at least four wideouts leaving the program after 2024 due to graduation (not to mention any transfer portal defections or early NFL Draft entrants), the Gamecocks would like to bring in some more young talent at the position.
One of the top receiver targets remaining on the Gamecocks' board is 4-star Rock Hill High School product Malik Clark. Clark has a nice combination of size and elite speed, and he has seen his recruiting rankings rise in recent months.
On Tuesday, Clark announced he had whittled his list of top schools down to just five, and the South Carolina football program made the cut.
Clark's top-5 list includes the South Carolina Gamecocks, North Carolina Tar Heels, Auburn Tigers, Florida State Seminoles, and NC State Wolfpack. South Carolina, North Carolina, and NC State have been involved heavily with Clark for a long time, and those three teams are considered the favorites in his recruitment.
As a player, Clark has the potential to be a special player at the next level. He is 6'2" heading into his senior year, and he has legitimate track speed (he's posted 100-meter track times in the 10.5-range and 40-yard dash times in the 4.3s). He isn't just a straight-line sprinter, though, as Clark has some good wiggle after the catch, as well. His athleticism also shines through with the ball in the air, making him a much more all-around talent at the position than most other high school receivers.
