South Carolina Football: Gamecock target runs blazing fast 40-yard dash time
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football brought in its 2nd wide receiver pledge of the 2025 recruiting class last week when Charlotte native Brian Rowe committed to the Gamecocks and joined Florence, South Carolina native Jayden Sellers in the class.
Head coach Shane Beamer, offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains, and new wide receiver coach Mike Furrey likely aren't done with just 2 wideouts in the class, though, as they are still recruiting several players to help replace the production of the four seniors on the 2024 roster (Gage Larvadain, Payton Mangrum, and Ahmari Huggins-Bruce are out of eligibility, and Luke Doty can appeal for an extra year if he chooses to do so).
Malik Clark, a 4-star receiver prospect in the '25 cycle, is a native of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and the Gamecocks are one of the favorites (along with the North Carolina Tar Heels) to land his commitment.
Over the weekend, Clark revealed that he ran a blistering 40-yard dash time while at the Carolinas Coaches Combine. According to Clark on Twitter/X, he ran a laser-timed 4.35, a number that is faster than what speedy wide receiver Xavier Legette recently ran at the NFL Combine. Clark also posted the best vertical leap at the Carolinas Coaches Combine.
His speed and athleticism translate to the football field well. Clark routinely runs right by defensive backs, and he a jump ball threat, too, making him nearly impossible to defend at the high school level.
Clark is also 6'2", meaning that he has more size than many other receivers who move like he does. The Gamecocks currently have one scholarship receiver on the roster taller than 6'1" and that is sophomore Nyck Harbor who is spending most of his spring running with the Gamecock track team. Clark is also a track athlete, but it is unknown if he wishes to pursue a dual-sport role in college.
