South Carolina Football: Gamecock targets slot in as 5-star prospects in new recruiting rankings

South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks only have one commitment so far in the class of 2025. Wide receiver Jayden Sellers (younger brother of USC quarterback LaNorris Sellers) pledged his services to the program back in the fall, and recent communication with new wide receivers coach Mike Furrey indicates he is still part of the team's future plans.
However, just because the Gamecocks have only one commit does not mean they are not making in-roads with some big-time names in the '25 cycle.
With a recent recruiting rankings update from 247Sports, South Carolina football fans might notice that three Gamecock targets sit inside the top-9 nationally and have been rated as 5-star prospects by the national outlet.
Offensive lineman David Sanders is the highest-rated of the bunch. The top-ranked lineman in the country is the #2 overall prospect according to 247, and he boasts almost limitless potential due to his impressive size, length, and athleticism. He recently named a top-6 that includes the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Defensive tackle Elijah Griffin is next. At #7, he is the top-rated defensive lineman in the rankings. A big-time athlete who can play either defensive tackle spot, Griffin recently put out a top list that included the Gamecocks, and after the Georgia Bulldogs (the current favorite), USC has as good of a chance as any at pulling in a commitment from the big fella.
Linebacker/EDGE recruit Zayden Walker has been rated as a linebacker and as an EDGE at different times in his recruitment, but he currently is a linebacker on all four major recruiting sites. For 247Sports, Walker is the top-ranked linebacker in the country in the 2025 class. He is the younger brother of incoming Gamecock freshman Jalewis Solomon and put the South Carolina football program inside his top-6 this winter.
The 5-star rankings for Griffin and Sanders match the recent recruiting update from On3. Fellow Gamecock targets like Isaiah Gibson (EDGE), Jared Smith (EDGE), Caleb Cunningham (WR), Jaime Ffrench (WR), and Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng (LB) all were ranked inside the top-50, as well.
