South Carolina Football: Gamecock target slots in as top-10 national recruit
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football has built up one of the best talent pools in the offensive line room of any program in the country. The Gamecocks have 7 different players with at least 3 years of eligibility remaining who also were 4-star prospects coming out of high school, and they have several high-upside 3-star players who have plenty of time to develop, as well.
It comes at the best possible time for USC as 2023 was a miserable experience up front for the South Carolina Gamecocks. Between injuries and poor play, a lot of youngsters were pressed into action on the offensive line last fall. Now, with several potential impact players coming in to push for starting jobs, the young players will have a chance to sit and learn.
The Gamecocks are committed to bringing in elite players up front again in the next recruiting class, too. Major targets like Jaylen Gilchrist and Juan Gaston are set to visit soon. The highest-rated Carolina target, though, is 5-star David Sanders from Providence Day School in Charlotte.
When On3's new recruiting rankings dropped this week, Sanders slotted in as the #7 player in the country. He slipped a little in the rankings to get to 7th, but he is still among the best players in the entire nation.
Sanders is one of the best offensive tackles in the nation, and he is an athletic freak at 6'6" and 255 pounds. If he can add some needed weight, he has a chance to be a star at the college level. Along with South Carolina, he is considering Georgia, Clemson, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Alabama.
As a player, Sanders uses that athleticism and his impressive length to dominate as a pass blocker, but he also plays with high effort and a mean streak, crushing would-be tacklers who get in his way in the run game.
Sanders plays on the defensive line for Providence Day, as well, but offensive line is his future.
