Priority South Carolina football recruiting target trims list, nears commitment date
By Kevin Miller
There are three wide receivers currently committed to the South Carolina football program in the 2025 recruiting class as the first two pledges in the class and the most recent player to make his commitment were all receivers.
Jayden Sellers (3-star, South Florence High School in Florence, South Carolina), Brian Rowe (4-star, Robinson High School in Concord, North Carolina), and Lex Cyrus (4-star, Susquehanna High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania) have all pledged themselves to the Gamecocks, but wide receivers coach Mike Furrey is still in pursuit of at least one more player at the position.
The top remaining positional target on the recruiting board for Furrey and the Gamecocks is in-state prospect Malik Clark. Clark, a 4-star prospect from Rock Hill High School, has a nice combination of size (listed at 6'2") and speed (has been clocked in the 4.3s in the 40-yard dash) and has a high ceiling as a pass-catcher. He also is a willing blocker, an underrated trait at his position.
Clark would be a great addition to the Gamecocks' recruiting class, helping replenish a room that is losing a lot of upperclassmen after the 2024 season. If he were to choose the South Carolina football program, he would be the only receiver commitment taller than 6'0" in the class, an archetype of player that is in limited supply on the current Gamecock roster.
According to On3's Steve Wiltfong, Clark plans to announce his commitment sometime before the end of July, and his list of top schools is now down to three. The South Carolina Gamecocks, North Carolina Tar Heels, and Florida State Seminoles are the schools still vying for Clark's services. USC and UNC are the long-tenured favorites, but FSU has made a push to get involved lately.
