Athletic South Carolina football target sets summer commitment date
By Kevin Miller
This summer has been exceptionally busy for South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer and his football staff. The Gamecocks pulled in 11 commitments during the month of June, and a long list of other USC targets have college decision announcements set for July and August.
One of the Carolina targets who had been believed to be making a summer decision is class of 2025 wide receiver Giyahni Kontosis. Kontosis recently put the Gamecocks in his top-6 schools along with the Indiana Hoosiers, Tennessee Volunteers, Maryland Terrapins, Cincinnati Bearcats, and Pittsburgh Panthers.
Late on Monday night, Kontosis revealed that he trimmed his list again (this time to 5 schools, eliminating Pittsburgh) and that he had decided, indeed on a summer commitment date, settling on July 27th for his announcement.
July 27th is the same date as 4-star safety target Lagonza Hayward is set to announce his choice between the South Carolina Gamecocks, Tennessee Volunteers, Florida Gators, and Georgia Bulldogs.
The Gamecocks already have two receivers committed in the 2025 cycle (4-star Brian Rowe and 3-star Jayden Sellers), and they are involved with several others at the position, including Kontosis. He has not made an official visit to Columbia but has continued to mention the Gamecocks among his favorites since his offer back in January.
Kontosis is an interesting receiver prospect. He previously was rated as a 4-star prospect but now is a consensus 3-star recruit. From the Washington DC area, "Geo" has experience playing both in the slot and out wide and has solid speed and change-of-direction skills.
Listed between 6'0" and 6'1" and 190 pounds, Kontosis has decent size for the position already and has a frame that looks like it can hold a little more weight well.
The Riverdale Baptist School rising senior has experience playing defensive back, as well, but his college future is most likely at wide receiver.
