The South Carolina Gamecocks are still riding high after their huge upset over the No. 16 Florida Gators on Saturday. The Gamecocks beat the Gators 38-19 on the road, marking the first road victory for South Carolina in Gainesville since 2014.
A big reason for South Carolina's success on offense was how well quarterback LaNorris Sellers played. He threw for 279 yards with four touchdowns, adding another rushing touchdown on the ground. He already received SEC Player of the Week honors from the SEC for his efforts, joining teammate Dylan Stewart.
But the fourth-year signal-caller also received some pretty hefty recognition from the Davey O'Brien Foundation for his win. The foundation named Sellers as the national quarterback of the week. It's the second time in his career that he's been given the weekly award, doing so after his performance against Missouri during the 2024 season.
"Against the Gators, Sellers was 23-for-35 (.657) passing for 279 yards and four touchdowns," the official release stated. "He also rushed for 20 yards and a score. His five total touchdowns matched his single-game career high.
It was the Gamecocks’ third road victory over Florida all time and first since 2014. Additionally, South Carolina’s 38 points were the program’s most in a road win over an AP Top-25 team. Sellers was also honored as the SEC’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week."
As if that wasn't impressive enough, Sellers was also named the Walter Camp Foundation's Player of the Week. The Walter Camp Award's National Player of the Week. The Walter Camp Award is given annually to the nation's best college football player.

Sellers joins an elite group of signal-callers that were given weekly honors by the Davey O'Brien Award. Previously, guys like Pitt's Mason Heintschel, Oklahoma State's Drew Mestemaker, Ole Miss' Trinidad Chambliss, Mississippi State's Kamario Taylor and Missouri's Austin Simmons have been recognized.
8 winners and losers from South Carolina's upset win over Florida
The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award is given annually to the best quarterback in the nation, and is considered to be one of the most prestigious quarterback awards in the country.
Sometimes the winner also takes home the Heisman Trophy in the same season, such as Indiana's Fernando Mendoza, LSU's Jayden Daniels and LSU's Joe Burrow.
The performance from Sellers was a huge improvement from how he looked previously in the season. The quarterback looked poised and confident, and also looked to be on the same page as several of his receivers like Nyck Harbor, Mazeo Bennett Jr. and Lex Cyrus.
If he keeps playing like he did the rest of the season, he could be in the mix for the O'Brien Award at the end of the season.
South Carolina enters a bye week this week before hosting No. 14 Tennessee at home on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Congrats to Sellers on earning some well-deserved recognition for his performance against the Gators!
