In the last 48 hours, Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball team immediately began restructuring their roster for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
On Tuesday, the Gamecocks announced a significant addition to the team, Ta'Niya Latson, the nation's leading scorer from Florida State. Latson, a 5-foot-8 guard, averaged 25.2 points per game during the 2024-25 season and will be reuniting with her former high school teammate, Raven Johnson, who announced that she will be staying at South Carolina.
Additionally, South Carolina has secured commitments from incoming freshman Agot Makeer and Ayla McDowell, boosting the team's depth and talent for the upcoming season. On top of the incoming players, Gamecock forward Sakima Walker announced that she was entering the portal, making the first transfer departure for the team this offseason.
With the additions, however, the new roster will intensify competition in the backcourt. Some fans have since expressed concerns on social media about MiLaysia Fulwiley's future with the team, speculating that the competition may lead her to transferring.
