The South Carolina Gamecocks are looking to rebuild after an abysmal 4-8 season in Columbia last season. The record marked head coach Shane Beamer's worst finish since his arrival in Columbia ahead of the 2021 season. Â
One sure-fire way to inject confidence in your program is by bringing in a solid transfer-portal class. And that's exactly what Beamer and his staff did, featuring big-name prospects like offensive tackle Jacarrius Peak from NC State, defensive lineman Tomiwa Durojaiye from Illinois, running back Christian Clark from Texas and EDGE rusher Caleb Herring from Tennessee.Â
The class was so impressive, in fact, that the Gamecocks checked into ESPN's top transfer-portal class rankings released earlier this week. Craig Hubert put together his top-25 list of programs that best bolstered their respective rosters for the 2026 season. South Carolina checked in as No. 21 overall.Â
"Shane Beamer gets a second chance to rebuild around LaNorris Sellers after a lackluster four-win season," Hubert writes of the class. "Beamer's top priority in the portal was addressing an offensive line that fell well short of expectations in 2025. NC State transfer Jacarrius Peak, a top-10 portal prospect, is a great place to start. Peak offers premium positional value.Â
He can replace Tree Babalade at right tackle but was also first-team All-ACC at left tackle in 2025. Peak is athletic, explosive and could take another leap with more consistent footwork, and he's a great veteran example for incoming four-star tackle Darius Gray.
Defensively, Tomiwa Durojaiye adds experience and some run-stuffing chops along South Carolina's interior defensive line. He's on his fifth school in as many years: Kentucky (2022), West Virginia (2023), Florida State (2024) and Illinois (2025)."
Per 247Sports, the Gamecocks had the No. 23 overall class in its transfer portal rankings. Beamer might be getting some momentum on the recruiting trail in the coming weeks, too. South Carolina has landed two verbal commits this week to its 2027 class, which could be a sign of more good news coming out of Columbia soon.
