The South Carolina Gamecocks are looking to stay hot during the month of July. Head coach Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks coaching staff landed several big-time commits earlier this month, including five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, safety Davion Jones and several others.Â
For the 2028 class, South Carolina is looking to add to that too. One big target that has emerged for the Gamecocks is 4-star safety Kaden Golston. The blue-chip prospect is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 17 overall safety for 2028, who is from Ashburn, Virginia. Â
According to On3Sports' Chad Simmons, the Gamecocks are an early leader for the safety, along with the Tennessee Volunteers. The Stone Bridge High School product was offered by South Carolina in January of 2026, as the Gamecocks were his first SEC offer. The Vols offered Golston about a month later, in February.Â
In addition to his two school leaders, Golston also holds offers from the likes of power-conference schools in Virginia Tech, Duke, Maryland, Missouri and Wisconsin. Over the last couple months, he has also received offers from Colorado and NC State.    Â
Golston would be a welcomed addition to South Carolina's 2028 class. It already includes a pair of three-stats, including wide receivers Jhamari Cain and Joseph Gibbs. Cain is the teammate of current 2027 South Carolina commit Iveon Lewis, who flipped from Kentucky last month. It's obviously quite early in the cycle for the 2028 class, but Coach Beamer can use all the positive momentum he can get entering a critical 2026 season.
South Carolina's 2028 class is already ranked sixth nationally in the country. Adding Golston to the class would make the class rank even higher, most likely. South Carolina has benefitted from recruiting the state of Virginia well recently, as Cain and Lewis play for Huguenot High School in Richmond.
