The South Carolina class of 2027 has taken some hits in recent days. Just last weekend, the Gamecocks lost 4-star cornerback Aamaury Fountain to Florida.
Just a couple days later, 4-star receiver Jaiden Kelly-Murray also decommitted from South Carolina's class, and he is likely bound to end up at Virginia Tech.
But South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer might be getting this class on the right track, as 4-star running back Aiden Gibson has South Carolina in his final five schools. The No. 6 overall prospect from the Palmetto State has the Gamecocks along with UNC, Rutgers, Penn State and Louisville:

Gibson, who is rated as the No. 23 running back for 2027 per 247Sports, also runs track at Woodruff High School. Per MaxPreps, Gibson has rushed for 3,931 yards with 52 touchdowns over his last three seasons. He has a visit to Columbia locked in for June 5, in between his May 29 visit to Rutgers and June 12 one to Penn State. The Gamecocks first offered Gibson in April of last year.

The running back does not have a commitment date set at the moment, but he's clearly narrowing down his schools. Getting Gibson to stay close to home and land at South Carolina would be a great way for Beamer to get his 2027 class back up and running.
Gibson committing to South Carolina's 2027 class would be big for Beamer, whose class currently has just two verbal commits. The class ranks 59th overall in the country.
