Jalewis Solomon is a 4-star athlete from Schley County High School in Ellaville, Georgia. The big-time prospect is being recruited as a wide receiver by some schools but seems to have more suitors as a defensive back. South Carolina football has emerged as one of Solomon’s favorite schools, and Gamecock defensive backs coach Torrian Gray is recruiting him as a secondary player.

Solomon took his official visit to campus earlier in June and, according to all reports, he had a great time in Columbia. For the last month or so, South Carolina football has appeared to be one of two favorites to land the 6’1″, 190-pound recruit along with Florida State.

On Monday, Solomon officially announced his top-5 schools via his personal Twitter account.

Solomon’s top-5 includes South Carolina, Florida State, Kentucky, Texas A&M, and Auburn. He has taken June official visits to see the Gamecocks, Seminoles, Aggies, and Wildcats and took an unofficial to Auburn to check out the Tigers.

Somewhat lost in the news that Solomon has named his top-5 is the fact that he also named the current leader in his recruitment. According to Chop Chat’s Taylor Devers, Solomon told several Florida State sources this weekend that the ‘Noles are the top team on his list.

The Seminoles moved ahead in Solomon’s recruiting during the Georgia native’s official visit last weekend. Solomon’s brother Zayden Walker, a 5-star linebacker in the class of 2025, joined him on his visit as an unofficial visitor.

It is unclear if the Gamecocks remain in Solomon’s top-2 as Carolina has taken a defensive back commitment this week in the form of 3-star David Bucey from Savannah Christian Prep.

South Carolina football now has three defensive backs committed in the 2024 cycle. Bucey, 4-star safety Kelvin Hunter, and 4-star cornerback Braydon Lee all seem to be solid commitments to Shane Beamer’s program. Solomon, fellow 4-star athlete Kam Mikell, 4-star safeties Kaj Sanders and Malcolm Ziglar, and 3-star safety Kaleb Harris are all still on the board, as well.
