Over the weekend, the South Carolina football program welcomed big-time recruits from all over the country for visits (both official and unofficial). Players like Daniel Hill, Parker Livingstone, and Keylen Adams had good visits to Columbia, and the Gamecocks are expected to be one of the major players for all three talented athletes.

Now, the Gamecocks have some positive recruiting momentum with two other 4-star prospects in Jalewis Solomon and Braylen Russell.

Jalewis Solomon is a 4-star athlete from the state of Georgia who has been considered a Florida State lean for a long time. However, after a great weekend in Columbia, the Gamecocks have inched themselves into close proximity to the ‘Noles. The versatile player from Schley County High School is expected to play defensive back at the next level and has been recruited by Gamecocks defensive backs coach Torrian Gray.

In what has become a bit of a recruiting tradition, Solomon’s name was featured on the marquee at the Cotton Gin in 5-Points in downtown Columbia. The talented athlete was impressed by the city showing him some love.

Braylen Russell is a 4-star running back from Denton, Arkansas who was once committed to the Razorbacks. The Gamecocks were an unexpected addition to Russell’s top-5 when he announced his finalists in May. His relationship with new offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains appears to have gotten South Carolina football in the door with Russell, and now, the Gamecocks are making headway in his recruitment.

When Russell found his name on the Cotton Gin marquee, he tweeted out a picture with the caption “Gamecocks love is unmatched” and tagged the three most important coaches in his recruitment: head coach Shane Beamer, offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains, and running backs coach Montario Hardesty.

Both Solomon and Russell have gone from longshots to real possibilities for the Gamecocks. Florida State is still a major factor for Solomon, and Russell’s recruitment appears to be still open to all five of his finalists (South Carolina, Arkansas, Tennessee, Baylor, and Texas A&M). Russell will commit publicly on July 14th, and Solomon will visit Florida State at the end of June.
