South Carolina football has picked up four commitments in the last week and a half, sending Gamecock Nation into a frenzy heading into the biggest official visit weekend of the year. Two prospects (5-star punter Mason Love and 3-star linebacker Fred Johnson) have gone public with their commitments, confirming that they were the names behind two of the four #WelcomeHome tweets from Gamecock head coach Shane Beamer.

On Friday, a third player announced his public commitment.

Matthew Fuller, a 4-star running back according to ESPN, announced his commitment to play for the Gamecocks and running backs coach Montario Hardesty. He is the first running back commit in the class of 2024, and the Gamecocks are expected to take two players at the position.

Fuller is a big-bodied running back (6’0″ and 210 pounds) who is entering his senior season at Wayne County High School this fall where he plays for Jaybo Shaw, brother of Gamecock legend Connor Shaw. He is not an overly fast back, but he never gets caught from behind, either. Fuller picked the Gamecocks over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

4-star running back Daniel Hill (from Meridian, Mississippi) is currently on campus for his official visit, and the Gamecocks are at the top of his list along with Alabama. 4-star Benton, Arkansas product Braylen Russell is also very interested in the Gamecocks and put Carolina in his top-5.

South Carolina football currently has 4 scholarship running backs on the roster, but one is a Division-II transfer (Newberry defection Mario Anderson), one is new to the position (quarterback-turned-receiver Dakereon Joyner), one is a true freshman (DJay Braswell), and one weighs 175 pounds (Juju McDowell). Adding Fuller (and at least one other back in the class of 2024) will go a long way in filling the room for the future as three of the 4 scholarship backs are juniors or seniors.

With Fuller’s commitment announced, there is still one mystery #WelcomeHome heading into the loaded recruiting weekend.
