South Carolina Football: 4-star defensive back makes college decision
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football has two 4-star defensive backs committed so far in the class of 2024. Safety Kelvin Hunter (Florence, South Carolina) and cornerback Braydon Lee (Washington DC) are both blue chip prospects that the Gamecock coaching staff are excited about having join the program.
Because of the nature of the secondary, teams are always looking to add more talent to the back end of the defense. Carolina has been involved with multiple other 4-star defensive backs with offer lists made up of the “who’s who” of college football.
One of these such players is Jarvis Boatwright. He is a big-time 4-star athlete who will likely end up playing safety full-time at the college level. Recently, via an announcement on his personal Twitter account, he named a final group of South Carolina, Florida State, Southern Cal, and Tennessee.
On Sunday night, the talented defensive playmaker turned to Twitter again to announce that he had made his college decision.
With a late-night announcement, Jarvis Boatwright committed to the other USC and pledged his services to the University of Southern California Trojans.
South Carolina football was firmly in the mix for Boatwright, and the Gamecocks were viewed as legitimate contenders for him along with the Florida State Seminoles and the Trojans of Southern Cal. In the end, though, the Clearwater, Florida native decided to take his talents all the way across the country to the west coast to play for head coach Lincoln Riley.
Making up for the miss on Boatwright, the Gamecocks made major moves this weekend to put themselves in a good position with 4-star safety Jalewis Solomon. New Jersey native Kaj Sanders is also high on the Gamecocks. If Carolina can pair one of those two blue chippers to go with Kelvin Hunter, that will be a very successful class at the position.
