South Carolina Football: Top 5 Running Backs on Gamecocks’ Schedule
By Jacob Elsey
#4. ZAMIR WHITE
The Georgia Bulldogs seem to crank out running backs like a factory. In the last five years, they’ve sent superstars Todd Gurley, Sony Michel, Nick Chubb, and D’Andre Swift to the NFL. Zamir White could be the next in line.
White saw his first action in ‘19, rushing for 408 yards on 78 carries. The redshirt sophomore dealt with some injuries early in his career, and has spent most of his time behind D’Andre Swift on the Bulldogs’ depth chart over the last few seasons.
Now, White will be the focal point of the offense. Swift is off the NFL, and Georgia is breaking in a new quarterback, meaning White will definitely get his fair share of carries.
He’s proven to be effective, too. The North Carolina native got his first career start in the Sugar Bowl last season, with Swift opting to sit out. White didn’t disappoint, running for 92 yards and a touchdown against a Baylor defense that ranked among the top 20 nationally.
White only saw double digit touches in two games last year, versus Baylor and South Carolina, which is the reason he’s not higher on this list. He’s certainly not being overlooked, though. BleacherReport ranked him at No. 10 on their list of college football superstar backs. If White lives up to the projections, the Bulldogs will be a major player in the SEC race.
