South Carolina Football: Top 5 Running Backs on Gamecocks’ Schedule
By Jacob Elsey
#3. LARRY ROUNTREE III
Larry Rountree III has been at Missouri for what feels like ten years. He broke onto the scene as a freshman in ‘17 and hasn’t looked back. The senior-to-be has run for over 2,700 career yards and 26 touchdowns out of the Missouri backfield.
His best season occurred as a sophomore, when he finished fourth in the SEC with 1,216 rushing yards. He saw a slight decline in carries last season, but still managed 829 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground, both of which ranked among the conference’s top 10 rushers.
He’s been a menace to the Gamecock defense, too. In his last two games against South Carolina, he’s totaled 178 yards and two touchdowns.
Rountree isn’t much of a threat as a receiver, but the 210-pound back from North Carolina is a load to bring down, and will likely be a focal point in the Tigers’ new look offense, as they bring in both a new coordinator and quarterback in ‘20.
