South Carolina opened its 2025 season without one of its most beloved leaders on the sideline. Defensive line coach Travian Robertson was not in Atlanta for the Gamecocks' 24-11 win over the Virginia Tech Hokies after being seriously injured in a car accident last Friday. Robertson was driving his Chevrolet Tahoe east on U.S. 76 when he was struck head-on by another vehicle that crossed over the center line and into his lane. Robertson was rushed to Prisma Health Richland Hospital where he was admitted with an ankle injury. Shane Beamer called his recovery "nothing short of a blessing."
“Truthfully, he’s very lucky to be alive,” Beamer said. “We continue to ask for thoughts and prayers for Travian and his family. He is going to be OK. It’s nothing long term. He’s just not physically able to be down on the sidelines right now.”
Assistant defensive line coach Jordan Love filled in for Robertson against the Hokies for the opener.
While Roberston could not be there in person, he still made sure to let Gamecock Nation know he was there in spirit. On Sunday, he posted on X: "Great to be a Gamecock. Forever To Thee!!"

It was a reminder of the connection Robertson shares with the program, having played in Columbia himself before returning to coach. His absence was felt on the sidelines in Atlanta, but his spirit was not missing. The team carried his words throughout their heartfelt battle, and fans across the country echoed them back in solidarity.
