The South Carolina Gamecocks are hard at work on the recruiting trial. This past week, Gamecock head coach Shane Beamer landed three verbal commitments, in offensive lineman James Ross, four-star receiver Iveon Lewis and four-star cornerback Kelvin Millington.

And the Gamecocks could be landing another target in the coming week, as big-time target and linebacker Jackson Ross is set to commit on Sunday, June 28 sometime in the late afternoon.

South Carolina is a finalist for Ross, who is listed by 247Sports as 6-foot-3, 215 pounds. He plays high school football out of local Hammond in Columbia, S.C. Ross is going to choose between South Carolina, as well as his two other schools in Texas Tech and Vanderbilt.

He took visits recently to all three of his final schools, going to Columbia on June 5, and going on-campus to Texas Tech on June 12 and Vanderbilt on May 29.

In a recent interview, the linebacker spoke to Gamecock 247's Hale McGranahan about how he felt about his most recent Gamecocks visit went earlier this month.

"Obviously, I've been around the facility and those people a good bit, but just having a weekend where I got to spend some good time with coach White and coach Money, but also coach Beamer," Ross told the outlet. "I already knew them pretty well, but also getting to be around some of the current players in kind of a different setting. There's not the stress of a game or a spring practice. It was good."

He additionally told The State newspaper in a recent interview that has opportunities to go elsewhere, despite growing up a South Carolina fan. On3 lists Texas Tech with a 38% chance to land the linebacker, with South Carolina getting 25%. But on his 247Sports page, South Carolina is listed as warm whereas his other two final schools are listed as "cool."

Ross had initially set his decision date for July 9, but moved it up to later this month. The 247Sports Composite lists Ross as the nation's No. 51st linebacker for 2027, and the 13th listed prospect from the state of South Carolina.

If South Carolina lands the linebacker, it will mark even more positive momentum for Coach Beamer and the 2027 class, which ranks 60th in the county and has 12 hard commits.
