The South Carolina Gamecocks were hoping to make a deep run in this week's SEC Tournament, which began on Tuesday. Although the Gamecocks were hoping to make a strong run to solidify a favorable regional, South Carolina was shutout against the Rebels, losing 2-0.Â
Although the Gamecocks had runners in scoring position in the first and sixth innings, South Carolina's offense left both of them stranded. The one bright spot was Arianna Rodi drawing her 46th career walk, which moves her to second all-time in Gamecock history.Â
What's next for South Carolina?Â
The Gamecocks now will wait to hear their names called during the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday evening, which starts at 7 p.m. Despite the loss, the Gamecocks appear to be in good shape to make a regional. South Carolina entered this week ranked 23rd overall by Softball America. Recent bracketology projections also included South Carolina making a regional. While the host teams have yet to be officially set, Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas, Tennessee and Nebraska appear to be the heavyweights that should host.
But until those brackets are officially revealed, South Carolina has to just sit and wait as the SEC Tournamen continues. Under head coach Ashley Chastain last season, the Gamecocks hosted a Super Regional, eventually falling to UCLA. South Carolina has made the NCAA Tournament 10 times dating back to 2013.
The selection show on Sunday will air live on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. ET.
